Enlarged Prostate (BPH) Incidence

Most men have their prostate enlarged as they get older. In fact, nearly 45% of men over 46 experience symptoms of enlarged prostate (BPH).  When it comes to number of men experiencing enlarge prostate problems, it is estimated at:

·         3 per 1000 men aged 45–49;

·         38 per 1000 men aged 75–79.

Many factors can lead to enlarged prostate ; however, as you age, your chance to have benign prostatic hypertrophy increases; thus, enlarged prostate symptoms occur in:    

·         About 50% in men aged 50 years or over;  

·         About 75% in men aged 60 over  

·         About 80% in men in their 70’s 

·         And about 90% after 80  

However, this is just estimation; you may start having enlarged prostate symptoms by age 40 while an 80 years old man have no symptoms of the disease. The development of the disease depends greatly on your lifestyle including your diet.
